This is a spherical robot design that I am working on. I intend to use this to create a replica of BB-8 (lots more work to do!). It is about 18" in diameter and very intuitive to control. I have spent about $400 for everything in this instructable. The internal structure and drive system is made from primarily Actobotics parts available through Servo City.

This modern wooden wall clock is an awesome example of repurposed blocks.
Check out the original tutorial here! Get ready to roll out for the premiere of Star Wars with BB-8 heels. These shoes take the Star Wars universe for a spin and are ready to help save the galaxy, or just look good doing it.
These ladies heels were converted to have a spinning ball in the heel and are dressed up to look like the ball droid BB-8 from the new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens. Read More Autonomous drones and the like have become a hot topic lately and have many active communities working to expand their capabilities. Everyone seems to have multi-rotor drone these days, which leaves other aircraft behind. I think it's time to take back the skies, (slowly) by building your own miniature autonomous blimp! A blimp you say? Like the HINDENBURG?! Actually, the Hindenburg was a zeppelin (rigid airframe) and achieved lift with copious amounts of hydrogen gas. We shan't be using anything nearly so dangerous. This blimp is mostly latex and helium, and has an Intel Edison at the electronic helm capable of navigating on it's own. How neat!
Read More I hacked a simple audio recorder and playback system, rigged it to Arduino, and inserted it into a tin can phone that I installed by the door.
To record a message, press a pressure sensor on the outside of the can and speak into it. To listen, simply hold the can up to your ear. (It uses a light sensor to trigger playback!) My ulterior motive was to learn how to hack existing electronics and control them with Arduino. It can be adjusted to use different sensors and be put in any sort of housing. I uploaded a quick demo for now; fuller video to come soon! Read More On your marks, get set, stay put! Have you ever that get up and not-go feeling? Well this car feels it, too. With a fan in the front and a sail in the back, you'd think it would be the perfect self-contained contraption. After all, it's a sail car that can make it's own wind, right? It wants to go everywhere, but ends up going nowhere.
The self-defeating fan car is one of my favorite contraptions, and it has a secret to escape from its stillness. This project is a great puzzle, a way to chat about Newtonian laws and forces, and of course, to be just downright silly. Read More I've been looking for a softer, less abrupt notification system than a vibration, sound, or light based notice. I couldn't find anything that fit that criteria so I decided to make my own. Furthermore, I wanted my solution to incorporate my personal interests in clocks and the way we as a society think about time.
From that, Blüp, was born. I came up with the idea of using a bubble in a container of liquid to not only notify me of an event of my choosing, but to also use the time it takes for the bubble to rise to instill a sense of urgency in my response to the event. For example, if you were to receive a message from a boss or other important contact, the bubble would form and rise at a rate that would give you enough time to respond before it pops at the top. The effect fades after a few minutes and you can apply a new design, allowing you to keep your look fresh all night. Read More Hide your cell phone by blocking any incoming or outgoing radio frequencies with a faraday pocket.
